It does smooth up a bit after a few hundred rounds. If someone can't handle recoil, this is a solid choice but if they have limited hand strength this probably isn't going to help. Recoil is non-existent so you can plink away and practice with just about any .22 ammo - I haven't seen any failures to fire.
