This version of the NVG-40 features dual 3rd generation autogated image intensifier tubes and a P-45 white phosphor screens. Autogated intensifiers constantly operate to improve image clarity and contrast in dynamic lighting conditions and white phosphor screens produce images closer to black & white for better object recognition and contrast sensitivity. The tube condition is designated Level 1: Representing the cleanest tube without spots for the clearest views. The design allows you to disable either side, based on your preference, and move it out of the way. This enables the use of just one side as a monocular so you can maintain maximum situational awareness. Sensors activate the NVG-40 when flipped down to your eyes and powers them down when flipped up and stowed.
The included goggle kit allows you to adjust the eyepiece's position up, down, forward, and back to get the perfect fit for your helmet style. A wide 54-72mm interpupillary adjustment range can accommodate most face sizes and shapes. Its -6 to +2 dioptric correction allows focusing compensation, even if your eyesight isn't perfect. Once properly adjusted it has an extra-long 25mm of eye relief for maximum comfort with a close focus distance of just 10 inches and an integrated IR illuminator to pack gear, do weapon checks, set up an LZ, or perform triage and first aid in the dark without giving away your position. AGM includes a pair of demist shields to prevent fogging and protective sacrificial windows that protect the objective lenses from windblown sand and debris.
