After years of customer requests (written 11-21), Buffalo Bore is releasing their first heavy 38 W.C.F. ammo. “Heavy” simply means full power—this is not cheap or weak CAS competition ammo.
This load is quite powerful, yet does not exceed the old SAAMI max average of 14,000 CUP. Our goal was to create a load capable of effective defensive use, allowing owners of these revolvers or rifles to utilize their firearms to preserve human life.
This load, like the 40 S&W cartridge, uses a .40 caliber bullet and achieves over 1,000 fps from a 5.5-inch revolver. Ballistically, it is equivalent to the 40 S&W. There are several advantages to this new load compared to existing 38 W.C.F. options:
- Uses properly lubed 15 BHN hard cast material instead of 5 BHN pure lead
- Prevents barrel leading and bullet deformation on living targets
- Ensures straight-line penetration at high velocities
- Suitable for harvesting deer at up to 100 yards with rifle/carbine velocities
- Incorporates flash retarded powder to reduce muzzle flash in low light
