All Buffalo Bore Heavy 40 S&W +P loads use flash suppressed powders that deliver high velocities at low pressures. Since over 90% of all human shootings in the USA occur in low light, we believe flash suppressed powders offer a potential life-saving advantage—you don’t want to be blinded after firing a shot in a high-stress, life-threatening situation.
Due to the wide variety of 40 S&W pistols in public use, we do not determine which pistols are compatible with our 40 S&W +P loads. This is the responsibility of the firearm owner. However, this ammo is safe in pistols that use a fully supported chamber.
Safety Notices:
- Speer #13 Loading Manual:
"Some pistols chambered for the 40 S&W cartridges may not provide complete support of the case head. If this condition exists, normal pressure loads such as those shown here can cause the case wall to bulge or rupture at the unsupported point. Contact your firearm manufacturer to determine if your pistol completely supports the case head, or ask a gunsmith to inspect your pistol before using it with ANY ammunition. It is the gun owner's responsibility to know his firearm and its capabilities and limitations." - Hodgdon #27 Loading Manual:
"This data is intended for use in firearms which fully support the cartridge in the chamber. Use of this data in firearms which do not fully support the cartridge may result in bulged cases, ruptured cases, case head separation, or other conditions which may result in damage to the firearm and/or result in injury or death of the shooter or bystanders."
Glock pistols chambered in 40 S&W do not have fully supported chambers, and these safety notices are likely directed at Glock. We are not aware of any other 40 S&W handguns currently sold in the U.S. that lack full chamber support.
If you wish to shoot our 40 S&W ammo in a Glock, we recommend installing an aftermarket barrel with a supported chamber. This common upgrade provides the necessary safety margin and may also increase velocity compared to the factory barrel.
Note: This issue applies only to Glock pistols chambered in 40 S&W. While Glock chambers are not fully supported in other calibers (45 ACP, 10mm, 9mm, 380 Auto), only the 40 S&W brass is weak enough in the web to present a safety concern. You do not need to worry about this issue when using our 45 ACP+, 10mm, 380 Auto +P, or 9mm +P/+P+ ammo in Glock pistols.
Below are real-world velocities recorded from personal firearms. We do not use test barrels, as they do not reflect actual performance in real-life conditions.
