After many years of customer requests, Buffalo Bore is proud to introduce what we consider the cat's whiskers in 405 Winchester ammunition.
Item # 405 Win -300 SP features a 300 gr. jacketed spitzer expanding bullet traveling at 2,370 fps from our two test rifles. This bullet delivers exceptional accuracy from both platforms, as demonstrated in our testing.
We would not hesitate to use this load for chest shots on animals weighing between 800 to 1,000 lbs. It’s a serious performer. While Teddy Roosevelt famously used the 405 Winchester to take down African lions, our version benefits from modern bullet engineering and advanced propellants—making it significantly more powerful and effective than the original loads of Roosevelt’s era.

- Velocity: 2,370 fps from test rifles

- Effective on game up to 1,000 lbs.
- Modern design surpasses historical 405 Win loads
Real-world velocities for Item # 405 Win -300 SP:

Important Safety Notice:
If your antique 405 Winchester barrel does not have the proper smokeless powder inscription (as shown in the referenced image), do NOT use smokeless ammunition. These older barrels may not be rated for the pressures generated by modern smokeless loads and could pose a serious safety risk.
