This new load is designed to fulfill dual roles. As a .416 caliber, it is more than capable for true dangerous game hunting and stopping. With its high ballistic coefficient and muzzle velocity, it also excels in big game hunting applications out to 250+ yards—provided the shooter understands target distance, muzzle velocity, and bullet exterior ballistics.
For decades, this was the role of the venerable .375 H&H in both Africa and Alaska. However, the .416—with its larger diameter and heavier bullet—is a superior stopper in close-range emergencies. It’s arguably the best combination cartridge for African hunting, especially when facing aggressive or wounded buffalo. In terms of stopping ability, this cartridge is in a class above even the best .375 H&H loads.
Bullet Performance:
- TSX 400 gr. Bullet: Outpenetrates all known lead-based, premium, controlled-expansion 400 gr. bullets by a significant margin.
- Ideal for Cape Buffalo when backed by a magazine full of the same load.
- While the 350 gr. solid offers even deeper penetration, it may not be necessary as a backup in this configuration.
Engineering & Rifle Compatibility:
- Full power+ load, yet remains within SAAMI pressure limits.
- Tested in a custom-built rifle with a 20-inch barrel, designed for portability and guiding rather than pure hunting.
- Longer barrels may yield higher velocities depending on internal characteristics.

Pressure Considerations for Dangerous Game Ammo:
- Lower pressure design ensures reliability in adverse conditions (e.g., rainwater or debris in the barrel).
- Excessive pressure can compromise function—optimal performance depends on proper powder and bullet selection.
