PLEASE NOTE: This DEER GRENADE round is too long to cycle in the Henry Big Boy rifle.
Buffalo Bore's Deer Grenade .44 Mag. +P is a 240gr. massive, hollow-nosed, 12 BHN cast bullet with a gas check, traveling at the following velocities from stock, real-world, over-the-counter firearms:
- 1,578 fps – Ruger Super Blackhawk, 5.5-inch barrel
- 1,535 fps – Ruger Redhawk, 5.5-inch barrel
- 1,466 fps – S&W MT Gun, 4-inch barrel
This load is designed as the world's premier deer load for .44 Magnum. The cast bullet is not considered soft, but it is not a hard cast bullet either, with a BHN (Brinell Hardness Number) of 12. It can be described as a medium/hard cast bullet. Performance varies by impact velocity:
- At 1,100 fps: Mushrooms to about .75 caliber and should push through any deer with a broadside shot.
- At 1,500 fps: Mushrooms with partial fragmentation; bullet particles spread through the deer while the shank remains intact and pushes through.
- At 1,900 fps: Full mushroom turns into shrapnel; particles scatter throughout the deer, while the shank re-mushrooms and causes extensive internal damage, likely pushing through.
Results may vary depending on bone impact and other factors. This load is specifically designed to cause maximum damage to deer-sized game. It does not penetrate like a hard-cast flat-nosed bullet, achieving only about 30% of the penetration depth, which is ideal for shallow game such as:
- Deer
- Medium-sized pigs
- Black bears
This bullet is properly alloyed, lubed, and gas-checked, ensuring it will not lead-foul barrels.
This load is safe for use in ALL/ANY all-steel firearms in normal operating condition. It is not recommended for lightweight alloyed revolvers, as the bullets may jump the crimp.
