Item 4A (305gr. Hard Cast Gas Checked LFN) is designed for super deep penetration on large game. The large flat nose ensures the bullet penetrates straight and deep, achieving over three feet of penetration in normal flesh and bone.
The flat nose also causes significantly more damage than a round-nosed bullet. While flat noses cut and smash through living tissue, round-nosed bullets tend to slip and slide, resulting in less damage and shallower penetration due to tumbling through matter.
Below are velocity measurements from over-the-counter revolvers and rifles:
- 1,328 fps – Ruger Bisley (cut down to 6 inches)
- 1,331 fps – Ruger Redhawk, 5.5-inch barrel
- 1,779 fps – Marlin 1894, 18.5-inch barrel
Item 4A is recommended for use in all steel revolvers and rifles currently on the market. It is NOT suitable for scandium or aluminum alloy revolvers.
