This load was developed for use in ALL/ANY .44 SPL firearms, including Charter Arms. Unlike our other heavy .44 SPL loads, which exclude Charter Arms, this hard cast Wadcutter 200gr. load was created in response to popular demand for a potent defensive round that can be safely fired in ALL .44 SPL and .44 MAG firearms.
It utilizes a low flash powder, recognizing that nearly all defensive shootings in the U.S. occur in low light when criminal activity is most prevalent. A blinding muzzle flash could leave the shooter vulnerable after the first shot, so this powder provides a critical tactical advantage.
As always, Buffalo Bore uses real, over-the-counter firearms to determine published, real-world velocities. We reject the industry-wide practice of using extra-long test barrels that produce exaggerated velocities. With Buffalo Bore, you get performance data that reflects real-world conditions—not sterile laboratory environments.

- 1,036 fps – Ruger Super Blackhawk, 5.5-inch barrel
- 971 fps – S&W MT Gun, 4-inch barrel
- 948 fps – S&W Model 396, 3-inch barrel
- 920 fps – Charter Arms Bulldog, 3-inch barrel
- 913 fps – S&W Model 296, 2-inch barrel
This load is engineered to permanently and quickly disable human threats. The large flat wadcutter nose crushes tissue as it passes through, unlike mushroomed bullets that tend to slip and slide. The crushing action ensures straight-line penetration, which typically results in deep penetration—enough to fully pass through even the largest human from any angle.
The hard cast construction resists deformation at these velocities, maintaining a consistent nose profile, bullet path, and terminal damage. Noted NYPD “stake out” officer and gunfighter Jim Cirillo used full wadcutters in his .38 SPL revolvers for their reliable incapacitation. See Item 20D (.38 SPL).
Expected penetration: Approximately 24 inches of straight-line travel in living mammalian tissue.
This load uses a properly lubed, hard cast (not soft lead) bullet and will not substantially lead-foul your barrel—even after hundreds of rounds.
