BUFFALO BORE'S DEER GRENADE 45 COLT +P is a 260gr. massive hollow-nosed, 12 BHN cast bullet with a gas check. It travels at the following velocities out of stock, real-world, over-the-counter firearms:
- 1890 fps — Marlin 1894, 20 inch
- 1526 fps — Ruger Vaquero LARGE FRAME PRE 2005, 5.5 inch
- 1539 fps — Freedom Arms mod. 97, 5.25 inch
- 1449 fps — Ruger Redhawk, 4 inch
Because this bullet is gas checked and properly lubed, it will NOT lead foul barrels.
We do not use the industry-wide duplicitous practice of obtaining advertised velocities from extra-long laboratory barrels, which produce super high velocities that customers will never realize in the real world.
You’ll notice that a shorter barrel gave higher velocity than a longer one — this is not a typo.
This load is designed as the world’s premier deer load for the 45 Colt +P. The cast bullet has a “medium” hardness with a BHN of 12. For reference:
- Pure lead: BHN 4
- Hard cast bullets: BHN 15–25
Performance by impact velocity:
- At 1,100 fps: Mushrooms to ~80 cal. and should push through any deer with a broadside shot.
- At 1,500 fps: Mushrooms with partial fragmentation; much of the mushroom and shank remain intact and should push through broadside.
- At 1,900 fps: Mushroom turns to shrapnel; shank re-mushrooms and causes severe internal damage, likely pushing through broadside.
Results may vary depending on bone impact, etc. This load is designed for deer-sized animals such as black bear and hogs. It also serves as an effective anti-personnel load if recoil can be managed. It is flash-suppressed for low-light use.
Cartridge OAL is 1.585 inch and will chamber in any 45 Colt firearm such as the Colt SAA or its clones. However, firing this +P load in firearms not designed for it can be dangerous. Use only in firearms rated for +P pressure.

- All Ruger large frame revolvers chambered in 45 Colt or 454 Casull (NOT for small frame New Model Vaquero or Flat Top Ruger).
- Ruger Revolvers and 45 Colt +P Ammunition
- All 1892 Winchesters and copies made after 1920.
- All modern Model 1892 lever guns and Winchester & Marlin 1894's.
- 1892’s & All Variants/Copies
- All Winchester and Marlin 1894 models
- Break open actions such as T/C or Handi Rifle
- Falling block actions such as Sharps or Winchester 1895
- Freedom Arms model 83 or 97
- Henry Big Boy .45 Colt
