This load is designed for those who do not like the recoil and blast of our full power 480 Ruger loads, but still want a very usable “field” load for killing big game.
Item 13B utilizes the same bullet as its full power counterpart, Item 13A, but instead of achieving 1,300 fps like Item 13A, it achieves roughly 1,000 fps, which reduces the recoil and muzzle blast by roughly half.
Since this 370 gr. hard cast, flat nosed bullet does not expand on game animals at an impact velocity of 1,300 fps, it won’t at 1,000 fps either. It will penetrate roughly 5 feet in living muscle and bone, even at the reduced 1,000 fps.
By moving this 370 gr. bullet at 1,000 fps instead of 1,300 fps, the only disadvantage in killing big game will be:
- The impact of the flat nose will not be as dramatic as it would be at 1,300 fps.
- The creation of secondary projectiles from bone shards/fragments will be less dramatic.
However, penetration of the two loads, making a .475 inch diameter hole, will be roughly the same.
