The 986 is a really nice Smith, the lockup is tight and the finish is perfect. I put on Hogue wood grips and it made this look fantastic! The only problem i have had has been misfires shooting double action. I have tightened the screw on the grip frame but have not had the opportunity to see if that helped. It could have been the ammo also because i had duds with my bulk Remington 115 grain. I did not buy this here but i have in the past and they have great service.
