The Taurus 856 Defender is a solid choice for anyone looking for a revolver for home defense or carry. The primary reason people consider buying Taurus products is price. The 856 offers a 3-inch barrel, a six-round capacity, and a night sight for less than half the cost of a Ruger/S&W/Colt. This gun is more concerned with function than fit & finish, but the fit & finish isn't bad. Lock-up is solid, the single and double action trigger pull is consistent, and the finish is evenly applied. I would not describe the action as "smooth", but it is consistent and reliable. Overall, this is a decent revolver and a good value for the money.
