This load features a 100gr. Sierra Spitzer bullet at around 3150 fps from 24–26 inch barrels. It is a multipurpose load for the .243 caliber rifle.
- Soft enough to expand on small game like coyotes and foxes, especially at close range.
- Tough enough to penetrate larger deer, medium hogs, and black bears.
- Not recommended for animals over 300 lbs.
Performance characteristics:
- At 50 yards, the bullet is highly explosive and penetrates only 14–18 inches depending on bone impact.
- At distances beyond 250 yards, the bullet expands less violently and penetrates more deeply due to reduced velocity.
General advice:
- Every load has trade-offs depending on rifle and application.
- Choose a load that suits your most frequent needs and operate within its limits.
Personal preference:
- The 100gr. Sierra bullet is affordable and versatile.
- If the rifle were used solely for deer or big game, the 85gr. TSX or 100gr. Nosler Partition would be preferred.
- Typically used for coyotes, crows, or Rock Chucks, with the option to take down deer or black bears when needed.
- Limitations exist on larger animals depending on range and impact velocity.
