- Item 42A:
- Bullet: Sierra 225 gr. Spitzer Boat Tail (SPTZ-BT)
- Muzzle Velocity: 2,705 fps (from a 24-inch barrel)
- Performance: Mushrooms readily while maintaining structural integrity on large game such as bull elk
- Recommended Use: Suitable for small to large game including whitetail deer, Yukon moose, and bison
- Item 42B:
- Bullet: Barnes 225 gr. TSX (Triple-Shock X)
- Muzzle Velocity: 2,654 fps (from the same 24-inch barrel)
- Performance: Designed for tough, angled shots on large game
- Note: Slightly slower velocity due to longer bullet length reducing case/powder capacity
- Penetration & Ballistics:
- The Barnes TSX offers the deepest penetration among expanding bullets in 35 Whelen
- Outperforms typical 250 gr. partition-style bullets in penetration
- Provides higher velocity, flatter trajectory, and reduced recoil compared to heavier alternatives
- Ideal for quartering or straight-away shots on the largest North American big game
