This is a super powerful .45-70+P loading. It is externally identical to SAAMI spec .45-70 ammo, but internally it generates significantly more power and pressure. While this ammo will fit and chamber in any .45-70 firearm, its use should be limited to firearms built to handle the +P pressures it produces.
Approved firearms for this load include:
- All Marlin 1895 iterations made since 1972
- All Browning 1885 and 1886 copies
- Rossi Rio Grande
- New England Arms Handi Rifle
- T/C Encore
- All falling block actions made of modern steel (e.g., Ruger #1 and #3)
- Shiloh, Christian, and Pedersoli Sharps
- Henry Lever Action Rifles
- All Winchester 1886 iterations made since 1915
- CVA Centerfire Rifles
- All Siamese Mauser bolt actions
This all-copper expanding 300 gr. TSX long-for-weight bullet penetrates about as deep as a typical 350+ gr. lead-core expanding bullet. It offers the advantages of a lighter bullet, including reduced recoil and flatter trajectories.
- 2,215 fps – Marlin 1895, 22-inch barrel
- 2,201 fps – Marlin 1895, 18-inch barrel
Many shooters don’t realize that the .45-70 requires minimal barrel length to achieve maximum velocities. As shown above, any straight-walled case (unlike bottleneck cases such as the .30-06) that uses relatively fast-burning rifle powders will reach full velocity in much shorter barrels.
